Windows 10: 21H1 fix for external Windows Hello camera support?

Can anyone confirm if 21H1 (currently Dev or Beta branch) actually fixed the issues with external Windows Hello cameras when connected to a laptop with a built-in Windows Hello camera?

I updated to the latest Beta build (not Dev) as it was supposed to have the fix, but when my computer still only tries to use Windows Hello when my laptop is open - to be specific it *does* use the external camera at this point. However, if I close it and dock it, it acts like there is no Hello camera connected and I am forced to enter my Pin or Password.

Can other programs then Windows Hello access an external IR Camera?

I got two web cameras, one normal and another which has an IR camera build in for my Windows Hello sign in function. I can access my normal camera in various applications but I just don't see any app or other way to open up a viewfinder for the IR Camera except when you set it in Windows Hello.

I have put tape over every web camera (except the IR one) but I'm uncertain if it even is possible to spy on me through that IR camera? Anyone who knows a way to spy on me through it? Or does Windows somehow lock it for 3rd party apps after being connected to the Windows Hello login method?

I want to be able to just login without having to take away and reinstall the tape every time i login. It kind of defeats the purpose of having this ease of use login method to begin with.

KB5000736 Windows 10 Insider Beta Channel Build 19043.844 (21H1)

The KB5000736 Enablement Package allows you to go from build 19042 (v20H2) to 19043 (v21H1).

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are announcing Windows 10 version 21H1 as the next feature update for Windows 10. As part of today’s announcement, we’re also releasing 21H1 Build 19043.844 (KB4601382) to the Beta Channel.

We are releasing this build to the Beta Channel via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update. This means Insiders in the Beta Channel will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install 21H1.

21H1 Build 19043.844 includes all the fixes noted here as well as the following new features as highlighted in John Cable’s blog post:

Windows Hello multi-camera support to allow users to choose an external camera priority when using high end displays with integrated cameras.

Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements including optimizing document opening scenario times.

We fixed an issue that causes a one minute or more delay when you open a Microsoft Defender Application Guard (WDAG) Office document. This occurs when you try to open a file using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path or Server Message Block (SMB) share link.

We improved Robocopy’s performance when copying files that total over 400 MB in size.

We fixed an issue that causes a WDAG container to use almost 1 GB of memory (working set) when the container is idle.

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updating performance improvement to support remote work scenarios.

We fixed an issue that causes changes that the Active Directory (AD) administrator makes to user or computer group membership to propagate slowly. Although the access token eventually updates, these changes do not appear when the administrator uses gpresult /r or gpresult /h to create a report.

Once an Insider updates their PC to 21H1, they will continue to automatically receive new 21H1 updates through Windows Update using our servicing technology (like the monthly update process). Insiders who don’t choose to install 21H1 right away will continue to receive 20H2 updates until we move all of the Beta Channel forward to 21H1 in the coming weeks.

To check and see if you’re running 21H1, just type “winver” into the Windows search box on the taskbar. It should show as “version 21H1”.

Windows Hello - Supported Camera List?

Hi,

I am interested in prepping for the upcoming upgrade, I am interested in the Windows Hello but would like a list of supported camera's

If I could have a list of some supported camera's and maybe some links to where I can purchase them; I would be very much appreciated.

Also you could add my question to the Q&A as this I am sure is a popular question people will ask.
