Windows 10: 22H2 Update Confusion

Yesterday the 22H2 update became available for my machine currently on Windows 11 Home 21H2. Tried to update through Windows update, stalled at 8% downloaded, after 2 hours of waiting, put it on pause because of other commitments, planning to retry updating this evening when I had more time. This evening, did a little troubleshooting first, before proceeding, to potentially mitigate a problem.Turned off firewalls, ran CCleaner, paused antivirus protection, ran sfc /scannow to check for curruption there wasn't any unplugged all uncessary devices except the mouse, and ran windows update tro

If you can't install it from windows update you can try to install it manually, it's the same KB5015684 obtained with windows update.

I wish things are that simple. My error code was 0x80246017, and I don't have KB5020435 installed so it's a dead end. BTW, MS lists like 6 or 7 error codes of the format 0x8024xxxx on the "troubleshooting WU problems", and when you chose next step, it suggests generic steps: run WU troubleshooter, check if your disk has no errors, is your remote disk is accessible, etc. Same as MS community; each similar error has completely different cause and (re)solution.
MS in notorious for this- if it works then OK, if it doesn't then good luck.

 

User Account Confusions

Certainly am ! First to uninstall Malwarebytes and disable Secure Boot. Then I am good to go.

I am confused by the Download Menus which suggest downloading twice which is fine but in
between seems to suggest downloading and UPDATING Windows 10. I seem to remember being warned at some stage updating Windows could cause confusion. Should I ignore this Dialogue - menu - step and proceed straight to downloading from the Microsoft site ?

Also I need the mouse to work efficiently is it ok
a) to leave it in and/or
b) to remove it an put it back during the Repair install ?

The touch pad is unreliable and only seems to work intermittently,
