  1. 2T HD - Slow USB transfer speeds, but fast as SATA

I have a WD 2T HD 7200 RPM. Plugged in as a USB drive, the transfers speed is 7mg/sec, but if I use it as an internal SATA it's about 190mg/sec. I've tried 3 different USB interfaces with the 2T drive with the same results. Other USB HD's that I have aren't slow like this one is even with the same USB interface.

I have it set for better performance not quick removal and indexing is turned off. I bought this drive as an external USB HD and it’s 2.0 USB. I put it back in it’s original case and that didn’t help. It certainly wasn’t this slow with XP or WIN 7. Any suggestions?

    :)

  2. 2T HD - Slow USB transfer speeds, but fast as SATA

    Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us with the status. We apologize for the delay in response.

I would suggest you run the Check Disk Utility.

    1. Press Windows key + X and click on
Command Prompt (Admin) to open the Elevated Command Prompt. (If prompted for a password, type the password and click Allow)

    2. Type the following command:

    • chkdsk /r and click Enter.
    • chkdsk /f and click
      Enter.
    3. If you see this message:

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.
Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N).
Then press 'Y' and click Enter.

    4. Restart your system and let the check disk run.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

  3. 2T HD - Slow USB transfer speeds, but fast as SATA

I did what you suggested, but won't this only check out my C drive? The 2T drive is a data drive. Not only did I already run check disk on it. I even wiped the partitions and reformatted as a GPT drive and it made no difference in it's USB transfer
    rate.

SATA is a lot faster than USB 2. You would need USB 3 to be closer to the speed of SATA.

  5. Of course SATA is faster than USB 2.0 7mg/sec is not even close to my 4 other USB hd's which are about 30-118 mg/sec This slow USB HD was much faster in Win 8. I did create a boot partition and tried to use it as a boot drive. I later deleted those partitions and now it's one big partition. I wonder if I should reformat it or format it as GPT?

  6. thats the most intelligent thing i like about *BiggrinGPT stores multiple copies of this data across the disk, so it’s much more robust and can recover if the data is correupted. GPT also stores cyclic redundancy check (CRC) values to check that its data is intact — if the data is corrupted, GPT can notice the problem and attempt to recover the damaged data from another location on the disk. MBR had no way of knowing if its data was corrupted — you’d only see there was a problem when the boot process failed or your drive’s partitions vanished.
