Windows 10: 2x CD/DVD internal drives and 2 external USB hardrives showing in Explorer

I have a Windows 11 Pro PC, I have a SSD for C:/I have a internal D:/DATA normal physical driveI have a internal DVD-RW E:/ this shows up twice in explorerI have a External Seagate expansion drive F:/ this shows up twice in explorerHow can I work it so that I only see one each of the drives?RegardsChris

CD/DVD Internal and External Drives

My internal CD/DVD drive was working and now has stopped. I have also added two external CD/DVD drives. One drive is a Blu-ray and the other is a standard CD/DVD drive burner/writer etc. I have made sure Windows 10 is updated, I have also tried just update
the drivers and lastly, I have deleted the drives and restarted my system but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions.

 

DVD drive thinks it’s a CD drive

I know this has been discussed before but none of those answers have helped me.

I have an internal TSSTcorp dvd drive. Windows 10 22H2 is giving it CD-ROM drivers and it won’t recognise DVDs. I have tried all the suggestions on the internet to no avail. I have tried a replacement drive to no avail. I have tried disconnecting the data and power cables and rebooting, shutting down, reconnecting and rebooting to no avail. I have tried devmgmt to uninstall, reboot to no avail.

After some more digging here is what I have found so far:

ASUS P5QPL-AM motherboard lists the drive model name correctly but says it is a CD ROM. Windows Explorer lists it as a DVD drive but assigns it cd rom drivers. Does this mean it is a motherboard problem and not a Windows problem? I tried a usb live trial of Linux Mint and it gave me the same problems but I don’t know if that was because maybe Linux does not recognise dvds natively.

I would do a clean install to see if that helps, but I cloned my hard drive onto an SSD and now Windows says there is no recovery partition despite it showing in drive manager.

EDIT: My Samsung external USB DVD drive works normally if that changes things at all.

Thank you for keeping us posted.

I would suggest you to open the device manager and check if the drive shows up in device manager.

Follow the steps given below:

1. Press Windows key + R to open the run command.

2. Type devmgmt.msc and press enter to open device manager.

3. Expand DVD/CD-Rom drives and check if the external DVD drive is listed.

4. If so, right click on it and uninstall it.

5. Restart the computer.

Let us know the result.
