  1. 3 Unusable Machines Due to Outlook Mail & Calendar Stealing Focus

I am at an utter loss and extremely upset with Windows 10.

Back in July, 2019. I had 2 Windows 10 laptops. Both were fine for a very long time until an update was applied automatically. Then BOTH of them became unusable overnight! Outlook Mail & Calendar took control of the machine by stealing focus and rendering the machines completely unusable. I tried uninstalling Mail & Calendar on one of them but it still insisted on popping up telling me to install Outlook Mail & Calendar. I finally gave up on both machines and didn't turn them back on until November when a big update came out. I applied the update to both machines and magically, both of them were free of the problem. I had both machines back and working just fine.

Fast forward to January, 2020 when all the bungled updates hit the news. The updates were applied to both of these machines and the problem came back! I uninstalled Outlook Mail & Calendar on my other laptop and while I couldn't get the request to reinstall to close, at least it wouldn't steal focus. I let it sit there in the background.

Fast forward again to May 7, 2020. I bought a BRAND NEW laptop. I ran through the setup and all seemed well.... for a few minutes. Until Microsoft Mail & Calendar hijacked a THIRD machine!!!

The only commonality between the machines is that they were set up using the same hotmail account that I've had for years. A coworker mentioned to me that it could be my router but it isn't because I've gotten a new router in midst of all of this. I've also proved that when disconnected from the internet Outlook Mail & Calendar does the same thing... hijacks the machine.

I blame Microsoft for this because the problem began in July but was fixed in a November update. Then it came back with a January update.

PLEASE HELP! I am completely without a computer and I own 3 of them!!!

    :)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. 3 Unusable Machines Due to Outlook Mail & Calendar Stealing Focus :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

    Hey Shawn,
I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused
