  3. How much RAM is recommended for Windows 10 if you have a pentium processor ?

I have a Lenova I5. At 4 GB ram the ram would overload and the machine would lock up. I would need to restart about every 4 hours.

With 8 GB Ram Windows 10 runs perfect.

It should run as fine as it does with WIn8.1/WIn7.

  7. I just installed Win-10 (32 bit ver.) on a little HP laptop, with 4GB of installed ram, but since I'm running the 32 bit version of the OS, it can only see 3.49GB anyway, so anything more would go unused. Beta testing a new OS, is a lot more complex than how much ram it takes to run right.

Yesterday, I installed 10/32 on a ten year old desktop, that I built in 2005, and it now has 4GB of ram installed.
But just like the laptop, Win-10 on the desktop can only see 3.49GB of that 4GB of ram, but it runs Great!

I suspect that Win-10 will actually run on a lot less, albeit maybe not as fast.

So far, I'm quite impressed with the Driver Package that comes with Win-10 Pro, Technical Preview 9926.
It automatically picked up all the hardware on my ten year old Desktop, including a USB3.0 adapter card.
It also picked up my Epson XP-410 Ink Jet printer, and runs it just fine.

It looks like Win-10 will be a success.

It comes with Windows Mail, disabled of course, just like Win-7, 8 & 8.1. But on those OS's I could re-activate it with a simple tweak, but on 10 I've not been successful doing that. But that's a whole different matter. Eh?

So I'm now using "Windows Live Mail" which I had to download. It requires Dot Net Framework 3.5 which I also had to download. WLM is the closest thing to Windows Mail that I've found, so far.

    Cheers Mates!

4 GB RAM - How will it run on Windows 10?

Windows 10 + 240gb SSD + 4gb RAM here and it runs plenty fast. After booting up and with Outlook, Skype and Chrome running it reports that it uses 2.8 / 3.9gb used. Works great.

Yesterday, this HP Entertainment PC dv9700 laptop had 2 GB RAM and was running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit efficiently.

Today it has 4 GB RAM (from my cratered Pavilion dv7-1256 laptop) and is running Windows 10 64 bit efficiently. So far I don't see any more speed than there was with 8.1 Pro.

BTW, I can see and use all 4 GB RAM.

I was just testing it in 1GB of RAM and it ran fine - although a bit tight. Usually I run it in 4GB.

  12. A bit of history:

When MS started making Windows, many years ago now, they knew that it would be called on to run on the systems of the day, with maybe only 256meg's of ram. So, they created the Virtual Memory (Pagefile) to be a supplement to the physical RAM.
That works, but it negatively effects the performance of the PC, because accessing files from the hard drive (the Pagefile) is much slower than accessing the same files from RAM memory, by as much as 1000 times.
In theory, if you have enough RAM, you don't even need a Pagefile, except that some software expects to see it and may puke if it doesn't.

    Cheers Mates!

I had a similar problem with my old XP-vintage laptop when I upgraded it from 8 to 8.1, and I think it may affect 10 too.

If I Hibernate'd it, or Shutdown with Fast Startup enabled (which is also a form of Hibernate) then the WiFi wouldn't reconnect.

In my case, the cure was to go into Device Manager, right click on the Wifi adaptor to get properties, go into Power Management, and untick the box 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'

Might be worth a try to save a USB port...?

edit ,that kind of worked ,i now don't have to uninstall the driver to get it to work ,i just have to put in the password to get it to connect every time
