4 Samsung SSD drives \ clean install

I have 3 500GB Samsung Evo 860 drives. 1 Evo 860 1 TB. I wiped the 3 500s. They were used 1x to clone existing data on drives (not OS). I wiped them and deleted the partitions. With a Win 10 v1903 iso I installed to one of these. I made it through the disc process and set up. PC rebooted into Windows. Crashed a minute or so 5x in a row. Different rason every time. I tried this with all 3 of these drives. Same result every time. The 1TB is new. I was able to get it installed, running, and updated to the full 1903, then 1909, where I want to live (doing recording studio).. But, I had another drive in my rig afterward. I was going to make it GPT like the new OS. Well, dip shit converted the OS to GPT and lost the install. Now it won't work in the exact manner the other 3 drives won't.

Totally at a loss for how to save $500 worth of drives from the crapper.

I know RAM to be good in running memtest 4 passes zero errors. I have a old backup 500GB 850 with 1803 on it that runs without error. I'm on it right now.

Not sure where I should have posted this, as it's an all encompassing crapathon. Please advise. Thanks, Shep

    :)

    Steps Complete:

    1. I've create a Win10 bootable install usb.

    2. I connect the new Samsung SSD 850 EVO via SATA.

    3. I reboot PC and verify SSD is seen by the motherboard/BIOS

    4. Begin Win10 install via usb.

    5. Get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the SSD is not listed

    Problems:

    1. Samsung does not offer a driver for the 850 on their website

    2. Cannot locate driver elsewhere

    Unsuccessful Mitigations Steps Attempt:

    A. Format & partition SSD via Windows Disk Management, then retried steps 1-5 above....same result

    B. Clone existing HHD onto SSD via "Image for Windows" by TeraByte, then verified SSD contents via Windows Explorer....similar result

Can you please offer some advice on locating a driver for a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB drive? Or an alternative method?

    Thank you

  3. Samsung SSD Drive Stopped in Window 10

    I have a Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10. I am using a Samsung T1 Portable 1 TB USB 3.0 External SSD (MU-PS1T0B/AM).

The drive worked fine on the unit and now stops (powers down) and Windows 10 freezes completely; only hard reboot possible.

    Here's what I know.

    1. The SSD drive works in other Windows 7 machines

    2. The SSD drive works in other Windows 10 machines

    3. The SSD driver works fine when run in Safe Mode on the Surface pro

    4. Other hard drives and flash disks work fine on Surface pro

    4. I tried the troubleshooting hardware tool, no issues found

    5. I uninstalled the latest Windows Update 6/29/2016, but it did not change outcome

    6. I uninstalled the USB drivers in device manager and they auto-installed on reboot, did not change outcome.

    7. There is no information on the Samsung or Microsoft sites suggesting issues with this drive.

Any other thoughts on what I might try to locate the conflict with the SSD device?

    Thx

    Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.
