Windows 10: 4k worth it or is it me

A general query or is it observation.

Running an UltraHD/4k 27" LG HD IPS monitor at 1920x1080 using display port. Recently updated to x64 CU and made the resolution adjustments to 3840x2160 - 200% scaling.

Personally I cannot see the point. If anything the screen fonts do not appear as clear as 1080. As the thread title states - is it me?

Full spec -
Win10 x64 CU - 1151 Skylake using integrated Intel HD 5300 graphics driver - 16GB ram - 500SSD HD.

Is it worth it?

Is it ever worth updating firmware? Look what the "support" folk had to say about this....

So - it'll cost me lots to go to a strange place that I do not know, and they'll do something that will cost me even more, and probably will not work. Then, I'll have to re-load everything back on to the phone. This phone is a few days old! Huh! So much for
service

 

Is it worth it?

Any further ideas on this, please?

What is the native resolution of your monitor?

 

Growing pains! Goldilocks trying to find the right scale to satisfactorily get the "job" done. Requires the coordinated and concerted efforts of Microsoft OS, software vendor and user to reach that "right" scale. Demand not really driving the train towards that end, yet.

 

I also have a 27" LG UHD monitor running at 3840x2160 and 60Hz, but with 170% scaling. Connected via DisplayPort to a GTX1050. I see a huge improvement over my previous Samsung 24" HD at 1920x1080. Fonts and most graphics are noticeably sharper. Have you checked out 4k videos at YouTube?

 

You would have to do the ClearType tuning again for the higher resolution screen.

If you didn't then it does not surprise me at all.

Hard to find now, put 'ClearType' into the search box.

 

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Have been playing around with a few settings as suggested and the graphics and fonts are an improvement in general after rebooting.

I was concentrating on a couple of programs that are not that bright in the font rendering department - jagged/blury edges so appears these programs need more attention so have dropped a note to the developers - will see if they respond.

I cannot see much of an improvement from ultra HD over standard HD but I've not used a computer with a monitor beyond 1080. Television wise I struggle to distinguish. Standard HD looks super sharp to me. I probably need my eyes checking tho as I also can't distinguish 30 fps against 60 fps. Both look fluid. I didn't think the naked eye could appreciate over 30 fps anyway. I guess what I'm saying is if your over 40 like me and years of gaming have taken their toll on your eyes then 4K isn't going to stand out!
