  1. 4TB hard drive not getting all space available

Hey guys,I have a 4TB hard drive that used to be plugged in to an old PC that only read it as being 2TB, now it's on a newer computer, but it will still not show as 4TB, it doesn't let me resize/expand it in Disk Management, I deleted all the partitions in it, but it shows as 2 unallocated space instead of 1.What can I do so it recognizes it as 1x4TB hard drive? Thanks.

    :)

  2. New 4TB Hard Drive Read As 1.6TB

The 4TB drive only shows 1.6TB, there always are two reasons for that:

1.The 4TB hard drive has been initialized to a wrong partition table. If you find a formatted hard drive not showing full capacity, which is mainly because you format the
4TB hard drive to MBR partition table. As we all know, MBR partition table cannot address to the space that exceeds 2TB. As a result, to use a full capacity of a hard drive that is larger than 2TB, you need to initialize it to GPT partition table
    via
    an MBR to GPT converter
    .

2.The 4TB external hard drive does not connect correctly. Some portable hard drive and USB hard drive are designed to connect a PC via a USB port. If you install the USB hard drive to your computer, the hard drive capacity detecting may
become an issue. An accepted explanation is the controller board of USB hard drive breaks the 2TB limitation, yet Windows internal device controller does not. Therefore, you need to additional hardware to make the installed USB/portable hard drive showing
full capacity. In that case, all you need to do is connecting the 4TB USB hard drive via USB port.

  3. 4tb drive says no space

Assuming everything else is working normally, some apps have a disk space check built-in to their install process. It could be that the 4TB with lots of space is beyond the app's programming to know whether or not to proceed. Is this a fairly old app where
that could be the issue? or do other Apps have a problem also?

If it is not just that app, is the 4TB the only drive in your PC? How was it installed and partitioned? I usually wipe all partitions before installing Windows 10, so that it can partition the disk according to the Windows 10 defaults.

  4. 4TB hard drive not getting all space available

    missing hard drive

ok, after going to device manager i found the hard drive there. I uninstalled it an restarted my pc. After i came back on i went to disk management an it was still not listed. I then unplugged it an did all these steps again to only get the same result.
What i don't understand is how it disappeared in the first place. I installed windows an everything else on my main drive (a 1 tb ssd) after i had gotten that all setup how i wanted i went to get my 4tb hard drive setup. But at that same time i still had my
thumb drive installed. the pc labeled my thumb drive as D an after i created the new drive space for my 4tb hard drive it's default letter was also D. An it wouldn't let me change it. An also at that time in disk management it was on there but it's space was
added with my thumb drive. I then ejected then removed my thumb drive an now it isd no longer on there? Not even when i insert my thumb drive. I have no idea what i did to mess this one up. Also i no longer have another computer to see if it'll work on.
