Windows 10: 5.1 suddenly not producing sound through my sound system

Hi. I have been using my Samsung soundbar connected to my TV and my computer connected to my TV as well for like 8 years and I have been using the 5.1 surround sound option for my PC via windows with no issues the entire time. Then all of a sudden today when I choose 5.1 no sound comes out all from anywhere. But when I put it on stereo the sound comes out from the soundbar and rear speakers. This makes no sense at all cause then when I turn the sound bar off and put the PC on 5.1 surround sound the audio from tv works. 5.1 is having no issues on my soundbar for my cable, ps5, ps4, or ps3. Not

When installing Windows updates, system start producing sound and it reached to maximum level.

• When exactly does the sound start producing?
• Does it happen when you are installing Windows update or after the Windows update got installed on your system?

This issue might occur if the sound drivers or settings gets corrupted on your system. Let's try the below steps and check if it helps:

Step 1: I would suggest you to run
System Maintenance troubleshooter and check. Please follow these steps:

a. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.

b. Click troubleshooting in the search results.

c. Click "View all" and then click "System Maintenance".

d. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Step 2: Run audio troubleshooter.

You might be able to solve some problems by running a troubleshooter that will automatically fix some common issues with audio.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

1. Press Windows key on your keyboard

2. Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting..

3. Click on view all (on the left)

4.
Select Playing Audio troubleshooter

5. Follow the prompted steps to troubleshoot this issue.

If the issue persist, follow method 3.



Step 3: Follow the steps below to update the sound drivers.

1. Press Windows + X key on the keyboard.

2. Go to device manager.

3. Right-click your audio/sound devices.

4. Click Update Driver Software and then follow the steps in the wizard that appears.

Restart the computer and check.

Sound Quality

One thing that sticks out from looking at your "My Computer" specs. You list "ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)" which suggests you do not have the correct sound hardware driver. Your motherboard has Realtek sound and the first step is to install the Realtek sound drivers. My ASUS also came with Sonic Studio 2 which is a sound enhancement package. Check the ASUS install disc to see if you have something similar.

May not be a speaker problem.
