Windows 10: 5 character truncation - How to fix

I only recently discovered that the 5 character username on my computer was not actually my fault. I had gaslit myself for years thinking about how moronic I was to misspell my own name.

I have looked online and I have seen a few ways to fix this and none seem to work. Most out there revolve around another account on the computer. There is only 1 account on this machine with absolutely no plans to add a second one.

Can I get any tips on how to fix this utterly unforgivably stupid design decision by Microsoft?

Windows User Profile name truncated to 5 characters

Dear Team,

I have purchased a new laptop with Windows 10. After I configured my windows with Microsoft Account, the user profile name truncated to 5 characters, even if I try to change I can't do.

Please let me know how to change the user profile name in my computer for the Microsoft account.

I have noticed the same thing, I configured my newly re-installed Windows while logged in to my Microsoft account, and my User Profile has defaulted to the first 5 characters of my email address. I am going to create a new user account/profile so I can
just abandon the Microsoft account one, it is already causing problems. The set up screens should ask what the User profile is to be called, not just assume it is the same as your truncated email address.

 

SMS messages over 160 Characters truncated

has anyone else tried to send sms messages over 160 characters only to have everything over 160 characters truncated?
