Windows 10: 7 digits code required to resetting MS account password but the MS keep on texting me a 6...

Try to setup the new Dell laptop with Windows 11 recently, during the startup, one of the setup process is to use my MS account to synchronize all the devices under this account. it requires both my email address and password to authenticate. Since I forgot my email hotmail password, click forgot password link, I chose the MS to text me the authentication code. it kept on sending me a 6 digit code, but the Windows 11 setup process asking me to put in a 7 digit code and fail to authenticate the password resetting process. There is no other way to out of this step, so I am left with a no work

MS account lockout. Unable to reset.

I am locked out of my MS account. All directions point to conventional reset help / support page requiring text verification code to reset. Problem is, I am in a rural locale (no cell service .. no texting) so unable to use that method. No other reset method appears to be available.

It is impossible to get help from MS so am VERY grateful to have found this support forum. Hope someone can help. (In any case) thanks (in advance) for suggestions.

Why send a 6 digit code but demand a 7 digit code?

Same thing happening here. I have requested the codes be sent to email and text and I only get 6 digit codes that do not work bc a 7 digit code is required.

 

How can I get 7 digit verification codes instead of 6?

I have a personal Microsoft account. It has 2-step verification set up.

Today, I’m performing a fresh install of Windows 11. I try to login with my personal Microsoft account, so I enter my username and password. I’m then prompted to use my email, phone number, or Authenticator app to get my verification code.

I don’t have my personal account set up with my Authenticator app, so I use email. I receive a 6 digit code and I try entering that into the code text field on the login prompt, but then it tells me I need a 7 digit code.

I the. Try to get a code through sms text, but that also only gives me a 6 digit code.

None of my options are giving me a verification code that works.

I cannot find any solutions to this, so I attempted to request a security info replacement in hopes to disable 2-step authentication. I then provided an alternate email.

Unfortunately, it appears this process takes a month, so I attempt to cancel the request. In order to do so, I have to enter a verification code and, again, I am only able to receive 6 digit codes but the prompt requires 7 digits.

Please help!
