    706 GB of Temporary Files!!!!

Can someone please help me *Sad i just bought a new laptop and it hasn't been a month since i used it. Now, i was wondering why my OS said that i only have 155gb free but my files are not even that big. And i searched what is the problem and found out that my temporary files is already 706GB. I'm currently deleting them but nothing is happening. i don't want to format it because i can lose a lot of files and i might need to install and download again some files. Please help me delete these temporary files. I'm starting to worry. I'm not knowledgeable when it comes to these things. PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!!1

  2. where this 706 gb storage has been used - need to free up disk space

    Original title: storage

Under settings tab in Windows 10, I go to storage usage. I see that I have 30 gb of pics and 70 gb of music. Everything else is very small compared to these filles. Yet, under "other" i see that i have used 706 GB of storage but does not tell where this
706 gb has been used. I need to free up disk space.

    706 GB of Temporary Files!!!!

Windows has an easy to use utility that can delete unnecessary files for you. It's called Disk Cleanup. There's a tutorial on its use here:
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html

The usual culprit for filling up your disk are the 'Temporary Internet' files. Disk Cleanup can delete these for both Edge and Internet Explorer. If you use another browser you can delete their temporary file cache from within the browser. For most browsers Ctrtl-Shift-Del is the keyboard shortcut to bring up the 'delete' dialog. Don't delete the cookies, else you'll loose your 'remember me' logins and have to log in again at your favourite sites..

Hi, you certainly shouldn't have anything like that in normal operation. Don't try manually deleting them- there are simple tools for that - using them is much quicker and safer.

We need to know first where they are and what may be causing this. Simply deleting them could well mean you just get the same problem again.

Try downloading and installing Windirstat (free) and post a screenshot like this:

You can immediately see from that there are two very large files, and some regions representing a set of files that are all in the same folder e.g. the green ones with one yellow.

If you hover your mouse over it it will tell you what they are.

The click the Treemap, and post sthg like this:

Thanks for the replies. I already tried the disk cleanup and nothing changed. I might as well try the windirstat *Smile and see if there are changes. My brother suggest to format my laptop and use windows 8 instead of 10 but i don't wanna. Will it be better?

If you can solve the generation of the temporary files, and you have no fundamental issues with Win 10, then your quickest option should be to resolve this.

I simply avoid Win 10's start menu and use Classic Shell (free, excellent highly configurable start menu- but no tiles), and almost never use the universal apps. So it's a traditional desktop configuration, with icons adapted to look like Win 7.

    706 GB of Temporary Files!!!!

It is not clear to me how you know that these are help-files. Do they have a name or an extension?
Often a lot of space is involved when your Windows back-up settings are wrongly set. However, backup files are not help-files.

Sorry, read temporary instead of help.

Unusual. That's about 1000X as much "temporary" stuff as I'd expect to see.

I wonder if the laptop has been compromised by some sort of malware. I suggest downloading and running the free version of Malwarebytes:

    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

(you may need to use a different download outside of the US). One symptom of malware would be being blocked from going to the Malwarebytes web site. Things get a little more complicated if that's the case.

    Good luck.
