    Problem showing SD cards when inserted in card reader

    Here's the thing:

    I have a multi card reader which has been working fine until the Anniversary Update. Now, when I insert an SD card, Windows doesn't show the card mounted. It remains as a hidden object which can only be viewed when I activate the "show hidden items" thing. Before the big update, every time I inserted a SD card, is popped up as a new drive (as th USB pen drives do).

    Any clue?

    I would suggest you try the following steps and see if it helps.

    Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

    Follow the steps below:

    1. Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.

    2. Change View by from Category to Small Icons/Large Icons.

    3. Click on Troubleshooting.

    4. Select Hardware and Devices and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Method 2: Update Card reader driver

    Follow the steps below.

    • Press Windows key + X and click on
      Device Manager.
    • Search for your card reader driver.
    • Right-click on the Card reader driver and select
      Update Driver Software.
    • Restart your system
    Method 3: Uninstall and then re-install Card reader driver

    Follow the steps below.

    • Press Windows key + X and click on
      Device Manager.
    • Search for your card reader driver.
    • Right-click on the Card reader driver
      and select Uninstall.
    • Restart your system.
    • Let you system scan for new hardware and install relevant driver for your card reader.

    SD card reader

    Ok thanks for letting me know, as we know the SD card works in another system then that's ruled out the card itself. As you heard a sound notification when inserting the card that tells me the card reader must be enabled in the BIOS. Check the card reader
    is clean, shine a light in to see if nothing is stuck, you never know. Try with no other usb devices connected. Go into device manager and try updating the device driver. Press Start and type in device manager, look for memory technology devices, the card
    reader should be listed there.
