  1. 7z.exe fails, but only if it is located in a specific directory

I place 7z.exe in a specific location c:\batch which contains many utilities and is located on the PATH.This arrangement has worked for many years. One day, it simply stopped working for no apparent reason. If I executed 7z from the command prompt, instead of a syntax list, nothing was sent to the screen and the program terminated. This error occurs if I invoke "7z" "7z.exe" or "C:\batch\7z[.exe]" If I change the name to "7q.exe" then it runs as before.I made a copy to another directory and installed that directory earlier in the PATH list. Normal operation was restored. I executed FC /B c:\b

Correct Directory Location For Pictures Folder

"Now Documents, Videos etc say file location is This PC. But Pictures file location is C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures."

If we understand you correctly, the issue is that Pictures doesn't appear in the left panel under This PC. The correct location IS C:\Users\PeteyBoPetey\Pictures. This is only an issue of using Step 8 in the tutorial to add it back to the list. See if this screenshot is what you want to achieve- put Pictures folder back in list on L.

How to open a .7z file

    Hi -mi.silva-,

    I'm Amr, an independent advisor.

To open a .7z file on Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    1. Download and install the 7-Zip software from the official website

    7-Zip

Make sure to download the version compatible with your PC.

    2. Once installed, locate the .7z file you want to extract.

    3. Right-click on the .7z file. In the context menu that appears, hover over the "7-Zip" option.

    4. In the submenu that appears, click on the "Extract Here" option. This will extract the contents of the .7z file to the same location.

    5. If you want to extract the contents to a specific folder, you can choose the "Extract to 'folder_name/'" option instead. Replace 'folder_name' with the desired name of the folder.

    6. After selecting the extraction option, 7-Zip will start extracting the files from the .7z archive.

Once the extraction is complete, you will find the extracted files in the specified location or the same folder as the .7z file.

If you're still unable to extract the program using 7-Zip, it's possible that the .7z file is corrupted or there is an issue with the file itself.

In such cases, you may need to re-download the file or seek assistance from the source you obtained it from.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.

    Best Regard

    Amr

7z.exe fails, but only if it is located in a specific directory

    7zip force ignore NTFS junctions

I would suggest to go in two steps :

    1. Generate a list of all the junctions in the folder
    2. Create a 7Zip archive from the folder while excluding the files in the list.

For the first step, you may use the following command in a Command Prompt :

    Where :

    • /A displays all files with a specific attribute, and L specifies reparse points (symlinks and directory junctions)
    • /S makes the command recursive
    • /B specifies the bare format of only file names.

When zipping the folder use the
    -x (Exclude filenames) switch :
