How to open a .7z file

To open a .7z file on Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

1. Download and install the 7-Zip software from the official website

Make sure to download the version compatible with your PC.

2. Once installed, locate the .7z file you want to extract.

3. Right-click on the .7z file. In the context menu that appears, hover over the "7-Zip" option.

4. In the submenu that appears, click on the "Extract Here" option. This will extract the contents of the .7z file to the same location.

5. If you want to extract the contents to a specific folder, you can choose the "Extract to 'folder_name/'" option instead. Replace 'folder_name' with the desired name of the folder.

6. After selecting the extraction option, 7-Zip will start extracting the files from the .7z archive.

Once the extraction is complete, you will find the extracted files in the specified location or the same folder as the .7z file.

Problems with .7z extension?

Right click one of the .7z files then click Properties

Under General, click Change

If you don't see 7zip listed, click More apps then scroll through the list and select 7zip

Click Ok

Thank you for your help.
Your solution did solve the problem in 2 steps [I'm learning ]:
Step 1:

What you wrote.
Step 2:
As the problem was still there I went to the regedit and deleted the value of "a", in the OpenWithList.
Then I went to the .7z file and was able to "look for an app in this PC" and associated the .exe file of the .7z App.
Problem solved.

Again, many thanks for your help and with a "side effect": I also learned a little extra.
