Windows 10: 92% - 98% disk usage while idle.

today I was doing something instead of using the computer and I noticed that the disk usage goes very high.


pc is: HP 250 G6 Notebook PC

and hard disk is WDC WD5000LPCX-60VHAT0


edit: system.exe process is causing it

:)

 

Constant 100% Disk Usage, 60-80% CPU usage. Both happen when idle.


Could you also provide a snapshot of Resource Monitor with selected Disk Activity Tab and checked only System:

i would also suggest running checkdisk and sfc /scannow

 

computer failed to boot - disk error event id 153 + 98


Hi, suggest you try Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - gives a great quick analysis (SSDs too).

Please post the results.

Event ID 153:
This event may be an indication that the specified drive may be failing soon. This is especially true if the event is recorded regularly. The first step is to run the maintenance utilities related to hard drives, starting with CHKDSK and the utilities available from the manufacturer for that specific brand.

Windows 10 100% Disk usage on idle

Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

1. How did you know that your Disk usage is 100% when its in sleep/idle?

2. Are you facing and performance issues?



As per the information that you have provided, I suggest that you update your PC and check. Also check by disabling any apps or software that might be running on the background when the PC is in sleep.
