  1. A bit confused by power settings, sleep vs screen on & off

Hello,I'm a bit confused as to how power settings work in Windows 10: I've included a screen shot to help illustrate my issue, which is very basic:Should I put the "Screen Turn Off" times earlier than the "Sleep" times? Essentially, I don't understand the order of what happens. I am assuming, though, that I want the screen to turn off before the computer sleeps, or that it naturally does so. The "Screen Turn Off" will simply make the screen go dark, but I will still be able to get into my computer without the pin -- is this correct? The "Sleep" will make the screen go dark AND I will have to pu

  2. Screen Sleep

    Hi Al,

You can disable screen sleep by configuring the Power Settings. To configure the Power Settings, follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings.
    • Choose System.
    • Select Power & Sleep.
    • Under Sleep, select Never from the drop-down menu.

    Screen Sleep

That only works until you reboot or power down. Then, it is back to the 15 minute setting. I am trying to kill screen sleep forever.

  4. A bit confused by power settings, sleep vs screen on & off

Power, Screen saver, and Sleep settings have no affect

    Hey Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not do it that way. This machine has no apps or files that needed to be kept so it made more sense to me to just redo the clean install. During the process of locating and following the tutorials I realized that I made a mistake on the first clean install. I followed the steps for UEFI instead of Legacy at the "where do you want to install Windows" step. I assumed that this was the original mistake but after finishing the 2nd clean install(following the Legacy steps) and going through the setup, the issue is still the same. Screen off and sleep mode work as set only if I'm not logged in.

    Currently up to date:
    Installed RAM 12Gb
    Win 10 Home
    Version 21H1
    build 19043.985
    Experience pack 120.2212.2020.0

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,
