Windows 10: A common file extension .svg is missing from my new laptop

So, I just got a new laptop yesterday, and in the process of installing my apps and testing them out, I found that .svg files, "Scalable Vector Graphics", aren't being recognized properly.I can open them, but not directly. I can't double-click a file to open it, or any other direct opening means. I have to right-click, and then use "Open with", and even then, I can't set a default app to open .svg files. And if I go into settings, go to "Apps > Default Apps > Choose defaults by file type", and then search "svg", the file extension does not show up.Now, along with my new laptop, I also ha

Hi Johnnie,

Right click an svg file, choose Open With - Choose Another App

At the bottom of the resulting menu, check the box marked, 'Always use this app to open .svg files'

Look for cricut in the list of apps, if it is there, choose that

If it is not there, scroll to the bottom and choose More Apps

If you still cannot find cricut, scroll to the bottom and choose 'Look for another App on this PC'

Locate the cricut program in either C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)

Then click OK

That will reset the file association on svg files . . .

 

Missing File Extensions

I have Windows 10. My list of default file extensions/programs is missing the .zip file extension. How do I add it back in?

 

Cannot change default app for .SVG file only

In Windows 11, I cannot change the default app for .SVG file BUT can change the default app for any other file type using any of: "right click file > Open With", or "Settings > Apps > Default Apps" or "File Properties using CHANGE button". BUT for .SVG file:
Open With only shows "Just Once" so there is no "Always" button likeis normally seen
File Properties does not have "CHANGE" button
Default Apps shows nothing meaning I type .svg in textbox at top, no default app shows (just blank area) so no way to change default

Again this only happens for SVG (.SVG) meaning I can easily change the default app for any other file extension.
For SVG, I can open with "Just Once" which is annoying and if just double click the .svg file, then it opens in Notepad (though notepad is NOT listed as the default app in Settings).

Above is running a local user account. It is a personal laptop and I am the only person using it.
If I sign in as the Admin account then I can change the default app for .SVG file by any method above, however, that does not let me change it in the local account.
