2. A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume C, The Master File Table (MFT) contains a corrupted file record.

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume C:.

The Master File Table (MFT) contains a corrupted file record. The file reference number is 0x10000000238a8. The name of the file is "\Windows\WinSxS\Catalogs\fa92fa14071cbe34acc5dc0a21419478f40b5f288629dea856a1cd34356e7ffa.cat".

    ^^

    from event viewer.

happened this morning when i booted up my pc.

    what i have tried:

(multiple times) chkdsk c: /f /r --> during the animation it says scanning and repairing drive. but it doesn't do anything, even after restarting many more times.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth --> the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. (error 1392)

(many times) sfc /scannow --> says no errors

control panel - system and security - security and maintenance - "restart to repair drive errors", again, restarted multiple times, nothing happened. same error occurs.

file explorer - C: drive - properties - tools - error checking, "we found errors on this drive" "repair this drive now", again, restarted multiple times nothiing happened.

this catalog file is a security catalog and after briefly doing some google searches i was advised not to delete the file.

how do i fix this? a bit concerned as this was the first time.

  3. A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume I:.

    Hello all!

I have a strange thing going on. There was some misbehaving programs so I checked Event Viewer and it finds the following:7

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume I:.

DriveNameI:

DeviceName\Device\HarddiskVolume7

CorruptionState0x0

HeaderFlags0x22

SeverityNormal

However, I checked with different softwares and I do not have a volume I:. Neither have HarddiskVolume7. I have just run diskpart from cmd and this is what is says:

    DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---

    Disk 0 Online 476 GB 1024 KB

    Disk 1 Online 931 GB 0 B

    Disk 2 Online 1863 GB 0 B

    Disk 3 Online 1863 GB 0 B

    Disk 4 Online 2794 GB 0 B

    DISKPART> list volume

Volume ### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

    ---------- --- ----------- ----- ---------- ------- --------- --------

    Volume 0 D DVD-ROM 0 B No Media

Volume 1 C SSD NTFS Partition 248 GB Healthy System

Volume 2 F NTFS Partition 228 GB Healthy

Volume 3 E Personal NTFS Partition 931 GB Healthy

Volume 4 J Transit NTFS Partition 1863 GB Healthy

Volume 5 G Backupt 1 NTFS Partition 1863 GB Healthy

Volume 6 H Backup 0-O NTFS Partition 2794 GB Healthy

So I don't understand what I: is and how can I fix this.

    Any idea is appreciated.

Windows 10 Event ID 55 - "A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume ??"

I've changed my harddisk 2 or 3 months ago after my old harddisk became unreadable without noticing me. (I was expecting at least slowness, or a Windows warning etc. None happened. I was using computer one day, computer freezed, then never opened. I changed the hdd, it was working.)

Anyway, while I was looking for another event in the Windows Event Viewer, I've noticed this. Windows 10 Event ID 55 - "A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume ??"

    The description of the event

I did chkdsk c: and everything seems ok.

When I checked this question A corruption was discovered in the file system structure, people said to look at S.M.A.R.T. features. I looked it up with CrystalDiskInfo, and it looks normal to me. But I don't know anything about HDD's so I'm not sure.

    The S.M.A.R.T. features.

There are other Ntfs(Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs) events with ID 98, before and after this event, and all of them is like: Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume4) is healthy. No action is needed.

Should I worry, or is it because an I/O error as stated in the other question's comments (I can't link the Microsoft page about Event ID 55 due to my new account, but the link is in the other question, and the page says :

If it is going to fail like my old HDD, I would like to replace it. But if it's not an HDD error and the HDD is OK, I won't replace it.
