    A lightning storm came through - when I try to boot up the computer it says Inaccessible Boot Devise; probably a boot up problem in Windows 10. What needs to be done to boot up Windows 10 again?

    Inaccessible boot device

    I recently got the error "inaccessible boot device" on a laptop with Windows 10 Home Edition.

    No updates were installed between the time it was working and now.

    I made a recovery USB last year and the computer will not boot from it although I have listed it as the first boot in the setup.

    Force shutdown windows 10 in lightning storms.

    While a UPS certainly is a good suggestion is it not garanteed that anything behind the UPS will be protected. Lightning can jump or cause EMF in the cables. It would thus be better to simply unplug the device in case of a thunderstorm. I don't see why
    it should be this difficult to shutdown without installing updates at least for a few hours.
