a Microsoft WinRT Storage API problem

Hi,I'm working in an IT company and operating a app on Windows platform. By some reason, we need to run that app as administrator. We are using company's domain credential to identify ourself to "run as admin" by using another username. After we upgraded into Windows 11, we cannot open text file .txt in that app. Because the default app to open that in an "Open" window will be Microsoft WinRT Storage API, and when we click, we will get an error that says "a specified logon session does not exist. it may already have been terminated".I understand why it happens, because we are running this app

    :)

  2. Open with - Microsoft WinRT Storage API

Just noting that unfortunately the steps listed here do not work in all cases - it hasn't worked on either my desktop or laptop PCs.

    • On my desktop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option was somehow linked with ClipChamp - I did try uninstalling and reinstalling that in a similar way (as well as the paint and photo apps) but no luck.
    • On my laptop the "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" open with option isn't linked with any other app.
I've since tried completely removing the OpenWithList registry entries for ".jpg" and even that had no effect, even though it recreated a blank registry entry. So I don't know where the menu items are coming from!

  3. Open with - Microsoft WinRT Storage API

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks.

Can you confirm you tried the following steps before running the DISM command?

    • Right-click on a JPG file and choose Properties.
    • Click "Change"
    • Select "Microsoft WinRT Storage API" from the list.
If so, the association didn't take effect. We'll have to try a different approach.

  4. a Microsoft WinRT Storage API problem

Open with - Microsoft WinRT Storage API

    Hi Mark,

    //But I don't know if doing this is a bad idea?//

Glad you located the problematic ProgID. You can safely remove the value "AppXvsqkg1th80rv6s2rkh5m1hjp3hxryydd" from the OpenWithProgIDs key.

//But maybe there is a better way of doing this!//

You can try this command from PowerShell admin:

    • get-appxpackage *clipchamp* -allusers | remove-appxpackage
And use DARF.vbs (optionally) to see if there are remnant entries related to Clipchamp.

    Edit:

Fix: “Microsoft WinRT Storage API” Appears in Open With Menu
