  1. a new win 10 2004 installation has created no recovery or reserved partitions.

I have just installed windows 10 2004 from installation media USB stick

I found a BOOT folder on my removable drive E: that was only installed as a placeholder in a removable disk cage.

On examining my disks with disk manager I find I only have one partition on my C drive, no recovery or reserved partition,

both disks are FULL no space for another partition.

I am not used to the newer UEFI bios and it apparently creates different/extra partitions.

The system will not boot without the removable drive installed.

How do I recover from this, has windows disposed of the other 2 partitions ??????

Can I move the BOOT folder to drive C:

Would it just be easier to do a re-install, but I have to re-install quite a few programs !

    Chris

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.

Ok everytime I install an OS I reformat the hdd and delete all partitions. When Win 7 is fully installed it creates it's own "system recovery" partition. But this time it didn't*Confused a new win 10 2004 installation has created no recovery or reserved partitions. I know how to create partitions, so can I create one for the recovery and will the os recognize it as a recovery partition?

a new win 10 2004 installation has created no recovery or reserved partitions.

    How To: Create recovery partition.

it worked when i copied all the files of the disk to the recovery partition i created, but i had to use WinPE tab to add the entry.

    Type: WIM Image (Ramdisk)
    Name: Recovery
    Path: Z:\Sources\boot.wim
    and hit Add Entry
I tried it in VirtualBox and it worked.
At first, it would add a second "Windows 7" entry to the list, but when the installation is finished, the old one is deleted. (I formatted only C: partition)
