Windows 10: A permanent "Fix" for Optical Drive issue?

Friends I have looked up various fixes for Windows 10's ill treatment of "obsolete" DVD/CD optical drives and not finding a permanent cure. Many have reported issues, and what seems to work some of the time is simply removing the device in Device Manager, and restarting, letting Windows 10 reinstall it. In my case [Probook 6475b, AMD "hudson" chipset] that indeed will get it to recognize data and play, until some other event I cannot identify, then it will be non-operative until I do the reinstall again. The OEM-installed drive and another 'test mule' I have are both good, both produce same symptoms.

The info showing in Device Manager looks clean. The SATA device is the MS-provided "Standard SATA" which is better than the very buggy AMD SATA device driver.

Optical drive letters keep swapping

Open Disk Management (click Start, type diskmgmt.msc in the Search box, and press Enter).

1. In the lower pane, right-click on your optical drive and select "Change drive letter and paths"
2. Assign Y: to the first optical drive
3. Repeat step 1 for the second optical drive and assign Z:

To find Optical Drive, we recommend checking it on Device Manager. Here are the steps below:

• Press Windows key.
• Type and click Device Manager in Cortana search box.
• Click View.
• Select Show hidden devices.

Boot into BIOS/UEFI and check that the Optical drive is listed there, if it is not then the Acer Tech has somehow not connected that drive correctly . . .

Otherwise, in Windows , open Device Manager - is hat drive listed at the top of the Hardware list?
