A question about speeding up Windows and RAM modules

Hi thereI would like to speed up an old SLOW Desktop PC with latest version of Windows 10 Home, 64 bit, 4GB installed RAM. Please have a look at the 2 screenshots to see the particulars about the PC & RAM.I'm considering using an SSD and doubling the RAM to 8GB, hopefully by getting 2 4GB or 1 of 8GB and replacing the current 2GB x 2 modules.I have read about and seen some old gadgets that have been considerably speeded up by the 2 changes. My problem is I'm not conversant with RAM modules and have in the past tried in different gadgets to just try out what fits in the slots and have used w

    Ram Speeds

    Hi dhruvk1

The Specs for that laptop list your RAM clock speed at 2400Mhz, even if you do but 2666Mhz RAM, the system will match the speed of the ram Sticks to the lower of the two automatically . . .

  3. RAM compatibility on Windows 10 PC.

    Hello Mehed,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

Please be informed that the best practice (tm) is to always use matching DIMM speed to avoid this possible problem.

There are two things that can happen depending on the specific RAM modules

    (brand, timing and motherboard compatibility),

    • The two modules will work effectively at the lower speed
      • this is safe and will only make you lose the speed edge of the faster module

(besides losing the DDR advantage, that is)
    • The modules will not be acceptable by your board together and it will declare memory failure.

So, the question you have asked is hardware specific and as far as Windows functionality is concerned, it will work with the resources made available to it.

Hope the above information is helpful. If you need further assistance, feel free to write to us.

    Thank You.

Windows 10 1903 - Error reading ram speed

    Hi Prezioso

This is a known issue.bug in Windows 10, where the clock speed of your RAM is incorrectly reported. This is nothing to worry about and will not in fact affect the performance of your PC.

Windows reads that form the chip on the RAM module(s), however at a lower level the correct clock speed of you RAM is being used by your hardware, regardless of what Windows reports that to be . . .
