A Raid 1 Disk listed twice in Explorer and diskmgmt.msc

Hi My system has an os disk, and a raid 1 disk which has two disks. The OS disk is labelled c: and raid 1 disk was labelled d:After I plugged in a expansion usb drive and removed it as it caused a drive offline error caused by a disk collision I now see two copies of the raid disk d: and e: The contents seem to be identical except for one file I wrote onto the raid yesterday which is on the d: drive but not e: diskmgmt shows two identical volumes also, with almost the same size partitions ? It's almost as though the two dives in raid 1 array are now split into two drives ?Any ideas what has g

External disk appearing twice in Explorer

    Hope someone can help me.

    I have 2 external disks - labelled M & N which I use for backups.

When they are connected however, they appear twice in Explorer

    Attachment 240106

This is very confusing especially as they are listed so close to each other - as N can appear above M! When expanded it is even more confusing.

Right clicking doesn't appear to offer any solutions to hide the "extra" entry. As I don't know what this effect is called, Googling is just about impossible.

Can anyone suggest why they are appearing twice, and whether I can hide the second entry.

    Thanks

    Colin

Raid 0 or Raid 1? I'm puzzled, need advice

if i understand that right you mean how the array oder say the disks appear to the os...

that depends on how you create your array:

    • if you have a hardware-scsi-raid-controller then the os, and all other applications of course too, see this array as one scsi-disk with twice the size that the smallest of both disks have.
    • if you have a standard (non-raid) scsi-controller und you use some kind of software raid (build in raid capability of windows for instance or third party software) than the os will see both disks individually and only the applications see this array as one disk.
note: if you create an array of disks using dynamic disks in windows then there is another method of creating one logical disk called JBOD which means that only the space is concatenated and there is no gain in performance because the blockwise datastream split which is done in raid-0 is not used here.

hope this helps a little in understanding raid arrays...

A Raid 1 Disk listed twice in Explorer and diskmgmt.msc

Is it possible to easily setup Raid-1 on this system ?

Get the six core CPU's I listed, at 3.3Ghz per core they will more than handle any calculations you throw at them for years to come, and with matching RAM in tri channel you will have a very strong setup.

My only other suggestion is a full RAID card like the one I listed with SSD's (in RAID 1)for the OS and programs, and then a RAID 5 array for backup and any large files on the board with a offsite final backup
