I'm posting this question without images first, because any image I try to upload fails to do so. I'll edit the question to add the images in afterwards, as they aren't a vital part of the explanation. This probably has to do with caching, but clearing iconcaches and thumbcaches and rebooting didn't help. In Windows Explorer and, through shortcuts, on the desktop too, I have a .exe file located in the filepath `G:\FoE - Remains\FoE - Remains\Remains.exe`, part of the game Fallout: Equestria - Remains. If I view the Properties of the file, it correctly shows the icon that's stored inside of

Windows Explorer crashing due to large files

It's an .exe right? Explorer probably read its icon (to a cache) when it was a "small" file and now call the quits when it finds "such a big" file.

If you want to delete it, use the console after killing explorer, you can run the console from TaskManager (Application -> New Task -> cmd). You might want to try copy the file to a different location (copy, not cut) and see if explorer can handle it in the new location before deleting it.

    Exe file slow to open

Possible... I had Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm, both, on different machines & times, misbehavin' and had to re-install them to set them right.
Even after cleaning them out and re-setting them; they would still bog the file access times down and cause Windows Explorer (not ie) to be slow on opening and accessing, until re-installed.

If he turns off real-time detection it will not make any difference, as he has already been opening the file... he would/should have gotten an alert or warning if there were a problem with the file he is testing with.

Probably not; but, how much ram?
    What version of Windows?
Where is you swap file located? What size?
    How full are your drives?
    What processor?
Have you got the latest firmware for your SSD?
Are your drivers up to date?
    Is your MB bios current?

Is the file an installation file, video file, etc? Does it use compression?

You need to goto User CP and put your system info there and then check the box to show the specs. The info will go a long way in helping some to diagnose your possible problem(s).

Task manager shows wrong icon for file explorer

I had this exact issue, well the icon anyway. From this link Task manager shows wrong icon for file explorer

Windows 11 Enterprise Edition; when I went to Task Manager, I saw in the Details and the Processes tab that explorer.exe had some WEIRD NON explorer icon.

I did update yesterday and thankfully after a Windows 11 CU, it "resolved" the ODD icon and now (today) I see the explorer.exe icon "normal." When I would go to Properties of the (ODD) explorer.exe icon, it showed the folder icon as "normal" and it was So ODD. Someone in the link file explorer recommended to create a shortcut and change the icon, well I didn't do that to start and thought ...malware, spyware, xware? something. so I tried to change it to %system% I think (I forget the details) yet I tried to change it and NOTHING. I wanted to write to people as the link file explorer thread is LOCKED, to try to assist others who might SEE this.

I have an HP laptop and I did an HP Support Assistance update and I wonder if it tried to update with one of THEIR programs or something. Just annoying.
