    A system image created was used to restore it on the disk WD 2.0 Tera Bites. The size of the system image was about 250 GB.The system image restoration failed and the following error message was given. Error details: The post-recovery operation to set registry keys for Automated System Recovery AST in the offline operating system failed. 0x807800B6. Even the disk that was working correctly stopped working even though they were not mounted on the machine when the machine failed. What caused this error? I am now reinstalling Windows.Toshi

    Windows 10 System Image Restore  

    Finally managed to copy the Windows System image from my NAS to an HDD connected to my laptop using USB 2.

    Started up the 'dead' PC (not the laptop) using the Widow's Repair disk on DVD and connected the HDD with the system image using a USB caddy. Connected another new HDD where the original system disk was - so far so good?

    Followed the steps on the system repair disk which found the system image on the USB HDD and the restore process seemed to start ok? The process started restoring the c: drive but stopped almost immediately with the following message:-

    'The system image restore failed.

    Error details: The volume does not contain a recognized filesystem. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. (0x800703ED)'

    In DISKPART the new HDD is listed as Disk 2 No Media

    Where to next ... ?

    Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


    In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
    I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.
