Windows 10: A update called KB5001716 from 2023-10 tried downloading and failed?

Okay, what is Microsoft even doing anymore? I complained about this same update in a previous post because I thought it was a random out-of-the blue update on a non-patch Tuesday.But can someone explain why a version of the update from 2023–10 also tried to download? The 2024-03 one installed fine, and I have seen at least a few complaints about this random 2023-10 update coming out of nowhere. Many of us have to deal with the chaos that is KB5034441, constantly failing, and now we have to deal with another? why? Is this an attempt to push up towards Windows 11 or something?

Exactly the same issue started to happen several hours ago. I did first two options you've recommended but that didn't help. Don't want to perform a repair-upgrade though. There is definitely something wrong with this KB5001716.

P.S.

* First, there was an update which installed correctly, it's listed in Windows Update Log as "KB5001716, 2024-03"

* Immediately after that, when I checked for updates again, there is another KB5001716 which fails to install.

* Now, my Windows Update Log contains another failed entry for the same KB - "KB5001716, 2023-10" at the top (note that it has older date), with error code 0x80070643

John, Why are you calling it old? The linked article that Paul posted for you says that its en-us version was issued on 28th September 2023. I've just checked for updates and KB5001716 is listed for me aswell. My updates list says it was issued on 3rd October 2023 [for all I know, that's because mine is en-gb]. Normally, if you search the TenForums News section, you'll find info on each update but, for reasons that I do not know, there is no article about KB5001716. @Brink - Can you comment? 2023-05 Update for Windows 10 version 21H2 x64 based system (KB5001716)- Download error 0x80070643

My computer is receving a Download error of 0x80070543 for 2023-05 update for Windows 10 version 21H2 x64 based system (KB5001716) when it tries to do it's automatic update. I have an HP laptop. I checked the download/update history today and this started in October of 2023 but I didn't notice till I got the Error code today. In checked the history I found that is shows that is was already successly installed in June of 2023. I ran the Troubleshooter but that didn't clear it. I checked the Microsoft catalog and this is not even listed. Is this trying to force me to Windows 11 which I DO NOT WANT. How do I clear error?
