A way to stop background network usage

    Hi all!

I always update my system before anything to minimize anything that could interrupt my activities. I recently had a problem with Windows Store Apps not updating. The problem was very persistent and I decided to refresh Windows. Now Apps Updates and Store are working just fine and everything is up to date but from time to time a service called "Microsoft upload/download host" comes up and start using lot of bandwidth. My internet speed and latency are very basic so I can't afford to have any interrupt. I wonder if you guys know a way to stop or delay whatever this service is doing until I decide there would be no need to use internet.

Any help will be appreciated! I'm very happy everything is working back just need this last thing. Thank you

    :)

  3. Winows 10 App does not show network usage

    Hi,

I have reserved my windows 10 upgrade for my surface pro (1st gen) long back. When I check for network usage on the windows 10 upgrade app, it was not showing any usage at all. Could it be possible that something is blocking the download

? Is there any way to validate that that the app is working in the background as expected?

    Thanks

    Thank you for answer!
I have disabled those items. Also, "apps that can run in background". In the previous Windows Install I disabled "Content delivery manager" to try but wasn't related to it. I read Windows Spotlight could use the service to download lockscreen images. I'm not sure to be honest because the time it use my internet for a couple of minutes.
What else can be downloaded (or maybe uploaded ) through this service ?

Hello, you should be able to achieve this (0 Network activity when idle) with very little effort indeed, unless sthg is wrong or you do have some legitimate activity:

Note the number of (small) startups I have and processes running. Despite that, quiet.

If you are experiencing unexpected network activity, please post a screenshot of your task manager clearly showing it and the related process.

Well, nothing came up with network problems so I guess I'll keep watching until service start again and then check Perfmon. In the other hand. after refreshed my computer to resolve Store Apps not downloading / updating the issue is back with same symptom but different error code ( 0xc0ea000a ) . So... I guess it's a Anniversary update related problem. I discovered a lot of people posting about it and a lot of help too. Some people were able to fix it some others like me.. well *Biggrin
Ok so what is the procedure now? Should I mark as solved or you close topic or leave it open.

Again, thank you for your time!

Finally ! I installed Process Hacker and the service started today. I was able to suspend it to check its properties. And I was wrong with my previous statement. It actually points to Windows Spotlight folder:

    Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy

and it's announced as Content Delivery Manager. I can't believe the first time I stopped this last services it was still downloading something but maybe it was my imagination.
Now that the mystery is solved I need a bit more of help. I wonder if you could help me find how does Windows actually start this service. I have searched through Scheduled Task but I don't see anything pointing to this *Smile So, any idea how can I achieve that goal? Thanks
By the way also I'm a bit surprised it takes plenty of time to download just a wallpaper. My internet don't suck that much. Maybe it's getting some other stuff.
