  1. A while ago after an update i have to start explorer manually from command prompt

So i got one of the fantastic windows updates awhile back that broke windows starting up normally for me. Im just now getting around to asking about it.

When i login, the command prompt is up on screen and nothing happens unless i type explorer. Then the taskbar and such comes up. How do i fix this please?

  3. after installing windows 10 i'm having problems updating it . it shows me the update and runs fine until it restarts then it shuts off and never start until i start it manually

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to try manually to reset the Windows Updates Components once again and then
    reinitiate the Windows Update process.

Resetting Windows Update Components will fix corrupt Windows Update Components and help you to install the Windows Updates quickly.

Please follow the below steps to reset the Windows Updates Components:

    1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

    2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer
and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

    • net stop wuauserv
    • net stop cryptSvc
    • net stop bits
    • net stop msiserver

    3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and
Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

    • ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    • ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the
Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the
ENTER key after you type each command.

    • net start wuauserv
    • net start cryptSvc
    • net start bits
    • net start msiserver

    5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it and then restart the computer.

    6. After restarting the computer, now retry to install Windows Updates.

Hope this information is helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

A while ago after an update i have to start explorer manually from command prompt

Installation media boots to command prompt

I've just booted from known working install media to see exactly what it does when booting. The sequence of events is...

    1. Windows logo on a black screen
    2. circling dots appear beneath the logo
    3. light blue 'Please wait' screen with circling dots
    4. a command prompt window (very briefly)
    5. the initial Setup page appears

Do you see steps 1-3? If so, it appears you have stopped at step 4, suggesting that something on the disc cannot be read.

Does the disc boot properly in another machine? If so, try cleaning the laptop's drive lens then try booting from the disc again.

If not, make new install media with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, either as a bootable USB, on an ISO that you can burn to another disc. At Step 8 in Option One of this tutorial you can choose between making a USB or an ISO.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File
