Installed Microsoft products on one's PC is the conventional reading of that.

That's what I'd expect. However MS's policy of ever closer union (like the EU) between its products might be changing that for all I know. I don't use Xbox.

    Eureka!
Control Panel > Troubleshooting use the WU troubleshooter (click Advanced and select "Run as Administrator")...all fixed. Thanks ;-)

Great thinking. I just asked someone else to do that in another context, but it 'shut down his PC'. Oops. Something is definitely wrong there.

BTW I clicked Advanced and told it to run as Administrator......that I forgot to mention, sorry.

Honestly, I keep forgetting the troubleshoot feature even exists. Probably because it almost never helps. This time it did though. Thanks.

  10. I have this same issue. Prior to Anniversary update this option was there and selectable. After the update, it's now greyed out and unselected. Troubleshooter found no issues to fix.

I do work in a corporate environment that controls most updates via SCCM, which of course tells me some settings are controlled by an administrator, but this has been the case prior to Anniversary update and I was still able to go to MS directly to get Office updates. Now I cannot. The only change was installation of Anniversary update.

    Sorry to hear that.
    You could try this:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...7a0235a?auth=1

Noting that some group policy changes have been made as you mention.

If nothing else helps and you no one provides a solution (bear in mind the AU is new) then consider that:
    - the AU upgrade did fix a few things
    - introduced 1 minor display bug for everyone (?)
    - but for some created some significant issues.
    E.g.
Safe Mode Workaround For PCs Freezing On Anniversary Update - Windows 10 News and Updates
Windows 10 Anniversary Update Hides Partitions After Install - Windows 10 News and Updates

You have 10 days from installing it to roll back (and of course, if you use disk imaging, as everyone should, and you have an image created before the upgrade you can restore your image).

You would then need to block that upgrade at least temporarily, in the hope that a fix emerges.

All that is predicated on it being a bug in the AU upgrade, and that it will be fixed, that being a risk in deciding which way to go forward.

  12. This is where I'm at now too. The Anniversary update just installed, and now that option is greyed out. I've been "Googling" for a while now, and haven't found a fix. I tried the troubleshooter, but nothing was found. I couldn't run it as Admin since I don't have Admin rights, so I'm kind of stuck. :-(

  14. So after last week's updates (27th) I now noticed the option under "Advanced options" is still unchecked and greyed out, but now on the main page under the grey box to "Check for updates" I see "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update.". I could have sworn that option wasn't there before. I checked on another of my computers, and I don't have that, but I do have the advanced option available and checked. I wonder why it's different on one compared to the other. Either way I'm happy now that I can check for updates again.

  15. My machine hasn't updated since 9/29 and I show the same as what you show now. Not sure what that says, if anything. I'm pretty sure mine has always said Check for updates from Microsoft Update, but I still didn't get Office updates due to that checkbox. <shrug>
