    Abnormally high resting RAM usage


    Hi there,


    My laptop is consistently using 60-70% RAM of 8GB with nothing running. Adding up the RAM used by processes running according to task manager accounts for <20% of what's available, where is all my RAM going?


    I have had this issue for a couple of weeks now and have tried running CCleaner, Windows defender, Malwarebytes, Malwarebytes' rootkit detector, defragging and cleaning my fans, what else can I try?

    @PolarNettles: yes I have a Gigabyte Z170x Gaming-3 Mainboard with Killer E2200 ethernet controller. Are there known issues with this controller?

    @AddRAM: RAMMap did nothing as I emptied all the lists. At first boot RAM usage is normal, but when I work or play some time it kinda stacks up the RAM. Snip of the resource monitor
