Windows 10: About my ram.

Hi, my laptop used to have one 4gb ram ddr3 stick, i upgraded it by adding another one into the other ram slot. So after months of having 8gb ram i tore down a toshiba satellite laptop which had a 8gb ram stick in it, so i took out one of the 4gb ram sticks and put the 8gb ram stick in its place. Now my laptopwhich from what i read can only support a upgrade to two 4gb ram sticks instead of one is reading 12 gb ram, is it normal that some laptops will still support adding bigger amounts of ram after the supposed "max ram" has been reached? Or is it a hit and miss.

One last thing, with 12 gb ram, how much should i allocate to minecraft? Thanks.

P.s the 8gb ram stick has the same specs as the 4gb one except that it is 8gb instead of 4gb, meaning that they both normally run at 1.6k speeds, oh, and they are both samsung. Thanks again.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

 

To RAM or not to RAM...

Hey genesis what hardware have you bought, you might be able to save on the ram and step up the rest of the hardware a little...

Or you could go out on the town as suggested... *Big Grin
