Windows 10: About NTFS and VHDx format files.

Do virtual Hard Disks provide real storage in TBs or they are just fake icons?I had have 2 VHDs of 2 TB each. But whenever I keep files in it, I observe that the storage of Local Disk C My original SSD is decreasing. What can I do to store data only in VHDs? Please Help!!!

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

What should I do with the vhdx file after formatting my laptop?

A VHDX file is a "virtual hard drive" file.

I suspect that it's a system image of your computer as it existed before you changed from Windows 10 to Windows 7.

Although you have no present plans to go back to Windows 10, I suggest that you keep a copy of this VHDX file on an external drive somewhere as part of your general backup strategy.

What should I do with the vhdx file after formatting my laptop?

I just got my laptop formatted from windows 10 to windows 7. In my D: drive, there's a vhdx file that took up the space as much as 120gb. I don't know what to do with the file and is it necessary to still be in my D: drive? What do I do if I delete it?
and how am I supposed to delete it? Please note that for now, I don't have any plans to revert back to windows 10. Are my files that were there before being formatted inside the vhdx file? and will they be gone if i delete the vhdx file?
