  2. about partition of c drive.

You are obviously using the built in utility. It cannot shrink from the left., You need to use a tool like EaseUS partition magic (free to try)

  3. about partition of c drive.

I do not get an error message, the partition program shows no MB of available shrink space in C:\.

There is approximately 600GB of free space in C:\ now.

I did run the defrag program prior to trying the reallocation.

I'm thinking that there are immovable windows page files/MFT/restore points sitting at the end of the C: volume that are preventing further reduction. (When I successfully reduced the original size by half, these files were probably in the middle) How can I
easily move these to allow further shrinkage? I'm not super technical so i don't want a complicated fix.

    Thank you

    About Partition

Simple answer is NO. The Recovery+boot partitions should be on the same drive (disk 0)

When you say "format my windows" did you meant clean install? When you do a clean install, you want to have only the drive connected that you are installing to (new SSD in your case). Disconnect all other drives (I recommend just pulling the power cables off them). That will ensure you get all the partitions - especially the EFI boot partition - on the same drive as the OS. Then after installation is finished you can reconnect the other drives - just make sure the drive you installed Windows to remains the priority drive for booting in bios.

You can then use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free to delete the EFI and Recovery partitions on Disk 1 and expand your D: drive partition into the empty space. If there is a small MSR partition on Disk 1 that MiniTool shows but disk management does not, you can delete that too.
