Windows 10: Access denied to micro SD card - ERROR: File ownership cannot be applied on insecure file...

I have followed procedures in other threads and Microsoft KB to give myself Administrator full control over this 64Gb SD card. I still get "Access denied" when I try to open it in File Explorer.


I tried doing the following in the Command Shell Administrator: PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> TAKEOWN /F G:\ /A /R /D Y
.... and I got back: "ERROR: File ownership cannot be applied on insecure file systems; there is no support for ACLs."


Is there some way I can re-format the card and give it a file system acceptable to both W10 and android10?


In the past this SD card has been accessible in File Explorer as part of my Samsung S9 Android phone and I have been able to read and write to it. This route is no longer working since Android has been updated and the phone is no longer visible as a device via USB to W10 despite setting the recommended developer options.

Nforce2 > nvidia.com. There you find drivers.

As for accessing files, take ownership.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft community Forums.

Are you using a standard card reader or a micro disc adaptor?



1. Try to open the files by taking the ownership and permissions, by following the below steps:



a. Right click on the SD card, and select ‘Properties’.

b. Click on ‘Security tab’.

c. Click ‘Edit’ to change the permissions.

d. Click ‘Advanced’ for special permissions or advanced settings.



2. Try to open the files, and if the issue persists, share drive to get permissions by following the below steps:



a. Right click the SD card.

b. Select ‘Properties’.

c. Select ‘Share’ tab, and click ‘Advanced’.

d. Select ‘Share this folder’.

e. Click ‘Permissions’ button.

f. Add ‘Everyone’ and select ‘Full control’.

g. Click on ‘Apply’ button.



3. Change the drive letter of SanDisk micro SD card by following the below steps:



a. Press ‘Windows key + R’ together to open ‘Run command’.

b. Type ‘diskmgmt.msc’ without quotes, and press enter.

c. Right click on the SanDisk micro SD card, and select ‘Change drive letter and paths’.

d. Assign a new drive letter.



Note: Don’t assign a driver letter that is existing already.



4. Scan the SanDisk micro SD card to check viruses.
