Access files on NAS-drive through windows file explorer

    Hi!

Throughout the years I’ve had several different NAS-drives from different manufacturers connected to my home network, and on my computer which had windows 7 installed on it, I could always access all the files on my drives by simply clicking on the drive in the network tab in windows file explorer. All the folders on the drive would then be visible and I could move files back and forth to and from the drive however I wanted just like you can move files to and from a normal hard drive or USB in the “This PC” tab. Recently I bought a new computer with windows 10 installed on it and I also bought two new NAS-drives from two different manufacturers. When I’m trying to access the drives in windows file explorer it just redirects me to the drives websites instead of showing me what’s on the drive. This happens with both my new drives and the old ones and since they’re all from different manufacturers I’ve come to the conclusion that this has something to do with windows.

So my question is if anyone knows what has happened to windows that’s causing this problem and how I can fix it? I want to be able to access everything on my NAS-drives through windows file explorer without mapping the drives.

I’m running the latest windows version.

    Thanks!

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. Accessing files over Network NAS drive

I bought a new laptop on Feb 1. It had Windows 10 installed when I got it.

I set everything up and installed my personal stuff and set the wifi adapter to "private" in the network and sharing options.

Everything was fine. I had direct access to my WD MyCloud NAS storage drive.

On Feb. 2, as I shut down for the night, there was an update. And the next morning, I had no access to my NAS drive.

The drive appears in the file explorer, under network, and several locations on the drive have shortcuts in the Quick Access menu, but nothing on the drive can be accessed, except through the web interface. There is no longer any direct access.

I have tried a large number of fixes I found through Google, including adding a credential and editing through services.msc (making a list of things "automatic" loading rather than "manual."

    Nothing has worked.

How do I get my NAS drive back?

Win 10 Pro file explorer lockup opening NAS drives

    greetings,

Win 10 pro upgrade from 8.1 pro on Hannspree netbook. Install went well, now when trying to access 2 different NAS boxes on my non domain network (simple workgroup setup) file explorer can't seem to access either of the drives, and when trying to abort the
attempt, file explorer locks up for about 20 seconds. Somewhere in the process I picked up a persistent error that the temp file removal failed, and this now persists even after reboots.

Had no issues w/ NAS file access while under win 8.1. No config changes to either the NAS boxes or the win install that I have made. Also, no issues accessing from my other win 7 computers.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
