    I'm trying to open a zipped file that I downloaded from Carbonite. I receive the error message "Windows cannot open the folder. Access to the Compressed zipped Folder '[name]' is denied."


    I have administrator privileges on my computer.


    I have unblocked the file in the Properties.


    The file from Carbonite does NOT have a virus.


    A few months ago, I found a solution to this problem but can't find it again. It had to do with changing a setting in Windows Defender or some other security setting. It was counterintuitive, as it seemed dangerous to change the setting, but it WORKED. Now, nothing else does and I can't find that post.


    Can anyone help? I need to be able to open zipped files!!

    Brand new computer and just downloaded a zip file and I get an error message that states, "Access to the compressed folder is denied"

    How do I access my files on my own computer?

    Access denied to compressed file

    I saved compressed folder to Dropbox from a OneDrive for Biz account that I was closing. Though the properties identifies my Microsoft Account as owner, I a denied access. I changed permissions to add "everyone". but get the same error. How can I gain
    access to this folder?

    It seems that the account that is logged in to your computer is not an administrator account that is why you are unable to change the permission settings of the compressed folder on your computer. For us to assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this issue?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Which version and OS build number of Windows 10 is currently installed? To check, press the Windows key, type winver, and press the Enter key.

      Are you connected to a work domain?
    • Are you using an administrator account or a standard user account?

    Meanwhile, if you are using an administrator account, we suggest that you try to create a local test administrator account and check if you will be able to change the permission settings of the folder. You can follow the steps in this
