  1. Access to computers on a Network

I have three computers on my home Network. I can see all three computers on the Network, when I double click on the computer ICON in Networks, my goal is to drill down and see the files on that computer from a different computer. I am prompted for a User ID and Password so I go to the target computer and add the Network PC Name and a user id and password. Then I go to the other computer and when prompted to log in with a User ID and password, it tells me the User ID or Password are wrong. So then I use this structure for the user computername\userid and then the password and get the same res

One computer cannot access other network computers.

So I've tried every troubleshooting step I know:
    • Double checked that Net Bios was enabled
    • Ran a bunch of network commands:
      • flushed DNS
      • registered dns
      • pinged and located the named computers successfully
    • Reset my router to factory settings

Nothing works when I try to access via explorer. I'm still baffled by the fact that every other computer can access each other AND access this computer. It's just the outgoing connection from this machine that doesn't work.

    Any thoughts?

  3. Unable to access network storage

    Hi Pravin,

Network permission is one of the possible reasons why you can't access a drive within a network. To better assist you, we the answers to the following questions:

    • Are you working with computers connected to a domain?
    • Did you make any changes on your computer prior to the issue?

In the meantime, we suggest following the steps below to troubleshoot Shared Folders in Windows 10:

    • On the Cortana search box, type Troubleshoot
      and select the first result.
    • Scroll down and click on Shared Folders.
    • Click the Run the troubleshooter button.

We are looking forward to your response.

Access to computers on a Network

recognize ethernet ports for computer to computer network

I worked all this out for a Win7-WinXP direct ethernet computer-to-computer network and later amended it for a Win7-Win7 network.
    A step-by-step procedure for creating a two-computer Ethernet cable network - MSAForum
You can use a crossover cable but do not have to.
Doing this in Windows 10 is just about the same as doing it in Windows 7 but some diagrams look different & you have to look around for the equivalent settings in some cases.

But I suggest you do yourself a favour and get a router so that it does all the hard work for you.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
