Windows 10: Access to Word

When I try to open a Word file, an orange box opens "Updating Office, please wait a moment. It then fails "Winword.exe __ application error. Application was unable to start correctly 0xe0000142."


So, I can't edit my Word files. Fortunately I can read them via pdf.


Can anyone tell me how to break out of this?

I understand that you want to disable word suggestions when you type any word. I’ll certainly help you with the steps.



To disable text suggestions, I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows Logo key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Devices, and click on
   Typing on the left pane.
   
3. Now, under Typing toggle the switch to off for
   Show text suggestions as I type on the software keyboard.
   
4. Under Hardware keyboard, toggle the switch to on for
   Show text suggestions as I type.

Unable to edit Word documents in Windos 10

Thank you for the update.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint are Office applications. There are different Office versions. You may follow the steps below to check which version of Office you are using.

• 
  Go to File Then select Account.
  
• 
  Click on About Word (Which have symbol of question mark).
  

I also suggest you to check multiple versions of Microsoft Office is installed or not in your system. You may follow the steps below:

• 
  Go to Control panel.
  
• 
  Click on programs and features.
  

Please do let us know the version of Office that you are using for further assistance.

 

Cannot access Word documents; click on one to open, it says that it is no longer there!

I would appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

1. Was it an upgrade or update?

2. When you say Word, is it Microsoft word or word pad?

3. Which version of Microsoft Word are you using?

4. Which was the previous Operating system installed on the computer?

If you had performed an upgrade, I suggest you to check Windows .Old folder for the missing documents.

Windows. Old folder will be located in This PC > access the drive where Operating System has been installed, there you would be able to locate Windows. Old folder.
