Accessing Different Music Media Folders In Detail View Is Randomly Slow

    Hi,

I've been looking into a potential problem for a while now, I've noticed it since the 2004/20H2 Update I think.

Basically, when I access music folders consisting of MP3's on my external drive Western Digital 4TB USB 3.0 in the 'details view' sometimes the folders will access the files right away and other times it will be rather slow. I'm speaking about the MP3 information that is displayed in the detail view columns, sometimes it's fast and displays the information about the music tracks and other time each row will take some time to populate that information. Each folder is basically 10-12 tracks on average.

Here are two screenshots to show what I mean:

It seems to be random when it's fast or when it's slow when I navigate to different music folders, for example if I navigate through five folders each containing a different album by a band they can display fast but by the fifth folder I look at it will populate the information in the detailed columns slowly.

I have tried several things to try and solve the issue, from disabling all my start-up apps, un-installing the few video codecs I use, un-installing media programs, SFC/DCIM scans no errors, memory tests no errors, HDD scans no errors, Optimising my drives, swapping USB ports, swapping USB cables etc nothing seem to resolve the issue.

I have noticed the same sort of behaviour when browsing music media folders on my main C drive and again sometimes it's fast to load detail view and other times it takes time.

It's almost like I have a process running in the background that runs randomly that slows down the population of the details view columns. All other functions of my computer are really fast.

    Here are my Specs:

    Win 10 Home 64-bit –Version 20H2 OS Build 19042.746

    Intel Core i7-8700 K3.7GHz

    Asus Prime B360-PlusMotherboard

    GeForce RTX 2080TiGaming OC GPU

    Corsair Vengeance LPX32 GB DDR4

WD Green 250GB SolidState Drive C/OS

WD Blue 500GB SolidState Drive Gaming Drive

I also tested plugging in my external HDD into my Win 10 Laptop Update 2004/20H2 NOT installed and noticed browsing my music media folders fast and hardly slows down at all in detail view.

Can someone just confirm if this actually an issue or just how Windows operates now with the latest updates?

    :)

  2. Windows music media files.

    Hi,

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • Are you trying to play the music's directly from the CD?
    • Are you using Windows Media Player to paly the music?
    • Did you try a different player?
    • Did you try copying the songs to a particular folder and checked if the issue persists?
As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to run Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar.
    • Select Troubleshooting.
    • Select View all on the top left corner.
    • Click Windows Media Player Settings.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Thank you.

Change Folder View Layout in Windows 10

"uhm that method does not work. i want to set folder view as List as default instead Details for all folders"
Did you download and run Brink's .bat file in Step 1 ? Lacking that, look at the screens in post 3. In Step 5 'folders of this type' defaults to each of the Windows templates for Pictures, Music, etc. If you want ALL folders to have the same List view, r-click any folder in each of the 5 folders under This PC (Desktop does not apply) and hit 'Customize this folder'. Set to 'Optimize this folder for General Items". Then follow the screen in post 3 using List instead of Details in Step 1 and you should be good to go.

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
