Accessing "localstate" location on old drive.

My computer has had 2 drives for years.

The C: Drive SSD holds the operating system.

The D: Drive Hard disk was for general use.

When using the windows store, it was set to install new apps to the D: drive. Let me use Minecraft for windows 10 as an example:

    %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds

Was the save location for Minecraft worlds. This address appears to be on the C: drive but to my understanding the "localstate" folder actually acted as a link to the other drive.

That other drive D: has recently failed and been replaced with a new drive I:.

I had an issue where the Microsoft store didn't understand this and refused to correct the now non existent app installs, but I eventually fixed it with this method.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_store-winpc/app-installed-to-external-drive-drive-erased-app/e1ac9dd7-dbb6-48aa-958d-41c4421389b4?rtAction=1509849541131

Which allowed me to reinstall and use the app and other windows store apps by changing registry values.

What I want to do now is try to recover the saves from the old D: drive. In the event that I can access it in some way, I need to know where to look for these files, but I can't find anywhere an explanation of where this "localstate" file is actually linking to and it's now set to work with the new I: drive.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    :)

  2. Location is not available F:/ is not accessible. Access is denied. External hard drive

    Hi,

Most of the time, when your external hard drive shows that error message, it suggests that you don’t have the privilege of accessing to the disk partition. We need to get a permit to take ownership of the drive. Follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Right-click your hard drive, then select Properties.
    • Go to Security tab.
    • Click Advanced, then select Edit.
    • On the Owner tab, modify the ownership of the specified account.
    • Click Apply, then OK.
Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.

  3. Location is not accessible. Access is denied. USB portable hard drive.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (10.0.17134) on a 3 month old HP Z Book laptop.

I'm trying to use an external hard drive (HP 500 GB) that worked this morning. I'm now getting an error: Location is not available. Access is denied.

I see this is a longstanding problem, going back to Windows 7 from a quick web search. The suggested fix of restoring the default location in desktop properties didn't work. Other suggestions of buying someone's software to copy the data off and then
    reformat seem absurd.

How can I resolve this issue?

    Thanks.

Accessing "localstate" location on old drive.

    Cannot access shared network drive

Personally, I wouldnt use Everyone. If anyone hacks into you, they have full access to everything and can demolish everything on your raid. I would rather set up accounts and access separately for each person. That way, I know who did all that damage. In the end with a little extra work, I feel more secure by using Authenticated Users.

    If this helps.
step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
step 3a remove Everyone from list
step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.
