This might not be a good idae, but I leave my Suface Pro on all the time, or in standby, and connect to it using RDP when I want to run Windows-only software, or to run my CNC machine. But, and it's happened a couple of times, something changes the IP address on the Surface Pro, and I have to change the setup to the new IP address to access it again. This morning, I was using RDP without issue, ran a project on the machine, made a couple of minor changes to the configuration of the CNC program, setup a piece of stock for my next project, came back into the house and couldn't connect, because the

Setting up Microsoft Remote Desktop access via the Internet (from iMac to iMac)

    Thank you for your response.

I have installed Microsoft Remote Desktop and tried to establish a link between a Microsoft Remote Desktop link between an iMac and a Mackbook on a Home Wi-Fi Network. ( No cables )

I have installed Microsoft Remote Desktop v10.2.13

Both Macs have OS 10.14.5 - latest.

I have successfully accessed two Raspberry pi’s with the Remote Desktop – but cannot access the to Macs.

Go to - Get started with the macOS client

Following this for local area network:

    1. On iMac

    Go to Preferences > Network

Wi-Fi is connected to BTHubxxx1 and has the IP address 192.166.1.111

    Go to Preferences > Shared

    I have tried the following:

    1. Screen Sharing Tick

    2. File Sharing, Remote Login and Remote Management Ticked

On iMac > Remote Desktop > Add Desktop

    In General

    PC Name 192.166.1.111

    User account MW

    Friendly Name MW iMac

    Group Saved Group

    Reconnect if Connection dropped Tick

Connect to an Admin Tick (also tried without)

    In Folders

    Redirect Folders Tick

    2. On MacBook

    Go to Preferences > Network

Wi-Fi is connected to BTHubxxx1 and has the IP address 192.166.1.222

    Go to Preferences > Shared

    I have tried the following:

    1. Screen Sharing Tick

    2. File Sharing, Remote Login and Remote Management Ticked

On MacBook > Remote Desktop > Add Desktop

    In General

    PC Name 192.166.1.111

    User account MW

    Friendly Name MW iMac

    Group Saved Group

    Reconnect if Connection dropped Tick

Connect to an Admin Tick (also tried without)

    In Folders

    Redirect Folders Tick

I have tried various combinations including without success.

I have tried accessing the Macbook via the iMac – again with no success.

Can you please suggest why there is a problem?

    3. Remote access via Internet of the iMac via the Macbook

For Remote access via Internet of the iMac via the Macbook – what setup should I use?

Should this be the BTHub IP address?

Setting up Microsoft Remote Desktop access via the Internet (from iMac to iMac)

I want to setup access to an Apple iMac via the internet to another iMac.

    1. Currently I am running the latest Microsoft Remote Desktop which I can interconnect within the local network - but I now want to access it when I am away from home. How to I set this function up?

    2. Also I use the same to access a Raspberry Pi - but some of the icon buttons do not work - such as the all important -"Shutdown" ! Any suggestions why this happens. The Icon buttons work on the pi HDMI screen.

Remote access not allowing access on Surface Pro & Surface Studio

Hi. I have a Surface Studio 2 and Surface Pro (latest). Both W10 fully updated.

I clearly have a Microsoft Account in order to have joined this community, yet remote access will not accept my password for that account, thus not allowing me remote access to my computers. Same through the IOS Microsoft Remote App...

    Talk about frustrating!

Have not been able to find any help on the web, so hoping this community can help. I am logged into both machines as Administrator and signed into my Microsoft Account.

    Thanks in anticipation.
