So I was updating my PC to version 2004, which is 2.67 GB to download. I check the Windows Update window from time (I'm doing some AutoCAD). Last time I checked it was on 91%. When I was about to get back to AutoCAD, I accidentally clicked on the 'Pause Updates for 7 days' button which is for some reason RIGHT BELOW Update Status indicators.

I unpaused it immediately, hoping that I'll still be able to recover that downloaded 91%. But sadly now its back on this 'Getting Things Ready' phase which now seems to be stuck at 0%.

What's gonna happen with that 91% I just downloaded? Would I be able to recover it? Or is it really just.... gone?

  2. option: pause update windows update for 7 days'

Martmcd, Thank you for your very helpful reply. I shall use your last bit of advice to leave it along and it will go away. the only problem I see is there is nothing that allows me to remove or keep the pause choice. The options shown in the box begin
with 7 days and only increase the number of days, not eliminate the pause. However, I shall simply ignore it, as you so wisely suggest. Thanks again.

option: pause update windows update for 7 days'

    Hi klaro

the pause updates allows you avoid interruptions from windows updates so that it does not interfere with the users important tasks.

most of the time (for most users) it is not necessary but gives some control back to the user.

you can actually pause updates for upto to 35 days

to change the period click on advanced options and select a date under pause updates.

once paused the "check for updates" button changes to "resume updates"

clicking resume updates will cancel the pause and check for updates, when the updates are finished, you can pause again if you wish.

my suggestion, if you don't need to pause updates, ignore it.

if you have accidentally paused updates, wait until it is convenient to install updates and click resume updates. (or you can leave it, it will unpause itself when the time expires)

I have been investigating my new install of windows and have noticed in the Updates area ….
Pause Updates for 7 more days …

I tried to go into the advanced options area to change it but am faced with a list of dates on menu and regardless of what I choose the phrase Pause Updates for 7 more days … persists.

What is up with that ?
