Windows 10: Accidentally deleted a my "F:\userfolder\onedrive\desktop"

Recently a family member has moved away, and left their PC behind. I started decluttering and clearing apps and files that would not be used again. I have no recollection as to how I made this mistake, I was on a deleting spree. I came back and the desktop wasn't loading... So I restarted, hoping it would sort itself out. When I turn the pc on, this pops up. " Location is not available" - "F:\user folder\ one drive\ desktop is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."I think I deleted the one drive folder/path? Everything loads so slowly now. I can't r

Onedrive Desktop Problems

I believe this is the AutoProtection feature in OneDrive that is not very well explained by Microsoft. Instead of keeping a local copy of your files, it moves all of the local folders to the OneDrive folder, and creates symlinks (that don't always work) in place of local content.

To disable, go to OneDrive settings - Auto-save - choose folders to unprotect.

You will then have to manually move the files/folders from OneDrive to the actual local place (so OneDrive/Desktop will need to be moved to %userfolder%/Desktop to restore local access)

Since your desktop icons are not in the Recycle Bin, we suggest that you create a new shortcut for your preferred applications. Follow the steps below:

• Right-click on your desktop > New > Shortcut.
• Enter the path of the application you want to create an icon or select Browse... > click OK > Next > Finish.

Note: If the deleted icons on your desktops are not shortcuts, but are saved files, it may be possible to retrieve them if they are saved in OneDrive.

Accidentally deleted folded in OneDrive

Hello,

My Desktop folder includes personal files and folders and it is synchronized with OneDrive.





However I have accidentally deleted the Desktop folder from the OneDriver folder on the PC/laptop. See image.

I have managed to restore the Desktop folder and some of the files/folders from the OneDrive Recycle bin cloud, however some of the files are missing.

Please for your assistance in restoring all of the files.

On the left OneDrive icon is displaying that "Your OneDrive is full."
