    Accidentally Deleted C:/ProgramData/Windows Defender/


    I accidentally deleted the windows defender folder from program data and now windows defender won't start up again. Ive tried manually installing an update but that doesn't work. Do I have to copy the folder from a different installation of windows to get it to work again? How can I recover? Ive also tried updating my PC but for some reason that wont work either. It just gives me

    "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: 0x80080005"

    And every option in my windows defender section is grayed out and turned off.

    C windows installer folder - Delete?

    He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink Accidentally Deleted C:/ProgramData/Windows Defender/ ;)
    Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
    First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
    Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

    Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.

    Can't delete folder in c:\ProgramData\

    While working in the elevated Console Environment, try these commands:

    md C:\Junk

    move C:\ProgramData\Battle.net C:\Junk

    Now reboot, then delete the junk folder.

    Accidentally Deleted Some Folders

    Yesterday I was cleaning my PC and I accidentally deleted two folders (named "NVIDIA" and "NVIDIA Corporation") in C:\ProgramData. To my knowledge this two folders only contain non important stuff like logs, etc. Later on I have found out my Program Settings in NV Control panel were set to default. This is no big deal, but now I'm worrying I fu***d something up. Otherwise, everything works as it should --> no overheating, BSODs, games are working normally...

    I just want to know what I deleted. Were those two folders important???
