  1. Accidentally merged Documents and Desktop folders - Used some registry key - Unable to sign...

As the title says, i have accidentally merged the documents and desktop folders.

In order to correct my mistake, I tried changing. But it became worse.

I was unable to even open the start screen.

I used some registry bat file and restarted. Now, totally unable to even sign in the user.

I currently have another user with admin privileges.

Can anyone guide me through getting the account back?

    :)

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hello,

I was moving some files around on my hard drive and I accidentally merged my User folder with my Documents folder. So in my C:\User directory instead of seeing C:\Users\MyName I see C:\Users\Documents. Seen below:

I have looked through a few different forums on how to fix my mistake, but I am not 100% sure on how to fix it. I believe that I need to make a change in the registry because the data field for "Personal" is %USERPROFILE% and not %USERPROFILE%\Documents.

Can anyone help me with some steps that I can follow so I can resolve my mistake? I don't want to mess up the registry and hurt my machine. Thanks in advance!

  3. User Folder name shows incorrectly in Explorer after an accidental merge with Desktop folder. How to correct?

While moving the location of my user profile folders (Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, etc) to a second drive to save space on my SSD boot drive, I accidentally merged the Pictures and Desktop folders together. This was repaired by using the "Restore
Default" option under the Location tab in Properties. However, I then accidentally merged the Desktop folder with my User Profile folder when moving it back to the SSD boot drive (I thought Desktop could stay on that drive afterall). The situation at present
    is the following:

My Desktop folder has been restored to the location

    C:\Users\USERNAME\Desktop

All is functioning as normal, and the folder has been re-identified as a system folder (a lot of forum searching to make that happen).

However, the issue that is still present is that my User Profile folder is incorrectly shown in File Exporer as

    C:\Users\Desktop

even though in the registry and file structure (using cmd prompt etc) it is correctly listed as

    C:\Users\USERNAME

for this folder and all sub-folders.

I have been unable to rectify this issue and would appreciate any help. The computer is fully functional as is, with the only glitch seeming to show in File Explorer. If any clarification is necessary, please ask. Thanks-

Accidentally merged User and Documents folders

    Hi Adalo_22

Yes you are correct, that is merged, open the Registry Editor, it should still be on the same page

Double click Personal and set its value data to:

    %USERPROFILE%\Documents

Also, double click the DWORD at the top indicated in the image below and set that to the same value and set its value data to the same value

When that completes, close the Registry Editor and restart your PC

That will reset the location of that library folder

You may need to manually move files and folders from your users folder back into Documents

Please Note, the icon on your Documents folder may not change immediately, but it will, it just takes Explorer a while to catch up on changes made in the registry . . .
