removing lock and security from a locked C: drive

Pulled this C drive from my windows 10 computer (which is stuck booting) and have plugged it into the usb on another windows 7 computer

want to unlock and remove security so that I can then do a windows repair to the drive and get it booting properly

Trying to remove the lock and security but not sure exactly how.

trying to unlock the drive and getting this error:

"an error occurred while applying security information to: E:\Program Files and E:\Program Files (x86) and a bunch of other folders

i plugged the drive into the usb port on another computer and started to unlock it following these direction exactly:

Follow these steps from the administrator account:

    a. Click “Start” and click “Computer”.
    b. Right-click “C” and click “Properties”.
    c. Click the “Security” tab.
    d. Click “Authenticated Users” and click “Edit”.
    e. Select “Authenticated Users” again.
    f. Under “Permissions for Authenticated Users”, click “Allow”.
    g. Click “Apply”.
    h. Click “Yes” when prompted by a “Windows Security” dialog box.

Should I have been trying to unlock "SYSTEM", not "Authenticated Users"?

    What did i do wrong?

How do I properly unlock the drive and reset the security so that I can access this drive and then run win10 repair to fix the errors?

What is Authenticated User under security tab?

    Hello everyone,

I have some issues with Windows 10 accounts.

I have only one account, admin one which is "JC"

whenever I go to E drive> properties> security, I see "Authenticated User" on top of my account lists.

I saw other people's windows 10 and they only have SYSTEM, USERNAME(USERNAME-PC\USERNAME), homeusers(USERNAME-PC\users), administrators (USERNAME-PC\administrators).

Why do I have this "Authenticated User" listed in my list? and it seems like although I logged into Admin account "JC" whenever I go to security "Authenticated user" is the first thing on the list (seems like it's recognising my as authenticated user
    not ADMIN)

I'm so frustrated with this because I can't play some games as it won't write save files onto my E Drive.

I'm guessing that because I did not give full control to "authenticated user" (which everyone tells me not to do due to security risk), I can't write on disks. BUT I AM LOGGED IN AS ADMIN ACCOUNT GAH!! I don't get this at all.

PLEASE HELP ME. SO FAR NO-ONE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON

Accidentally removed Authenticated Users from security tab under C drive. Will this cause...

Can I safely remove Administrators, Authenticated Users, System, Users

Make a system image then try it and see how it behaves.

Given that you are so safety conscious that you blocked out part of your computer name in your diagram, why are you even considering this extraordinary step? In other words, what benefit do you hope to gain?

If this is something about setting up a home network then I'd suggest, at most, sharing your C:\Users\YourUserName folder instead of the whole drive.

    All the best,
    Denis
