Windows 10: Account in Win 10 listed as unknown account everywhere but libraries

So I have a kinda weird one that I cannot wrap my head around. I'll try to be as clear as possible...

I am the administrator of my home PC, and I am using a Microsoft account instead of a local account. When I look at the properties of my libraries, under the security tab, my account is clearly listed as someone who has access to these files.

When I look at the properties of anything outside of libraries, My account is listed as Account Unknown (insertstringofnumbershere). Trying to add my otherwise clearly listed name and account results in the name not found dialog box. I have tried adding myself by email and by account name, and neither work.

I feel like this also has something to do with my Linux laptop not being able to connect to anything shared.

Let me know if you have ANY ideas or questions. I've not tried much in the way of fixes because I have no idea whats going on.

I want to change my child account into my adult account.

In truth, there is no child. Both accounts are my adult account. I had not a clue when creating accounts or even know I was creating them. Now I know, the email account I've had since before microsoft bought Hotmail, has always been my primary account.
On an old computer some computer generations ago when microsoft was being excessively obnoxious and insisted on having me "log in", I opened a different account to 'sign in' with. Now I see how totally screwed up things are viewed from microsoft's perspective,
I thought I ought to fix it before something massively ridiculous and nightmarish happens.

I don't care that I have and adult and a child account. But the adult account is the one I signed up for arbitrarily several computer generations ago and I've lost the password at least twice and suspect there may even be another email attached to that
one that I never use. I just want to fix it. If I delete the adult, which is actually the child, I'm confident microsoft could never fix it in my lifetime and I'll be stuck changing the email account I've had since before microsoft bought it in order to
try to fix something that seems to me to be so simple.

It isn't about any category. I is microsoft accounts. You're nagging me that I have family, which is how I figured out how screwed up your records about me are.

Is there hope? I hope that any replies will go to the real adult, which is listed as a child...

Thank you for helping. Very generous and kind of you. I apologize if I implied there is a password issue. I meant to convey that the registered adult account is not an account I use. When I do recall I have it and find the password to check the mail
there is 2 years of junk mail. Meaning it is a problem to have it as an adult account since it is really a throw away email address. I think I saw something about deleting a family, to be sure to delete all the children before deleting the adult. That gave
me some hope that this shouldn't be that complicated.

I'm not going to install windows fresh again. It is a new computer with enough work related to that. I know how to do it, I've done it at least 40 times over the years. Can I delete every account I have and sign up again. It has nothing to do with money.
MS has never had access to any of my credit cards or anything.

I just did this with Netflix. For some reason my correct ID and password stopped working. They did a reset and used the same information to reset the account so the ID and password wouldn't change. Took ten seconds.

I don't "need" a family. It's just the account listed as an adult is not something I've ever used except to sign in to a computer 2 generations of computers ago. Microsoft store is actually acting much better now and Microsoft isn't trying to take control
of my computer through Microsoft Store on this new computer. These are promising signs that maybe I could deal with Microsoft, use Microsoft store, etc. But it is going to be a mess, I've been fine for decades without dealing with Microsoft. Just thought
if they aren't going to change my sign in to my computer information, I may be able to use the Store and other features I otherwise have avoided like plague for decades now.

 

No idea what went on, but after contacting MS support, they advised me to try adding myself in Effective permissions ( Properties -> security tab -> advanced -> effective permissions ) When I added myself there, it magically worked.
Don't know what the problem was, but it's fixed now.
